Born on September 7, 1951, as Muhammad Kutty Ismail Paniparambil, Mammootty hails from the town of Chempu in Kottayam district, Kerala. After completing his graduation in law, he worked as a journalist for a brief period before entering the film industry in the late 1970s.
Mammootty made his acting debut with the film "Anubhavangal Paalichakal" in 1971, but it was his role in the film "Devalokam" (1979) that earned him recognition as an actor.
